With the tail fibers bundled now in your left hand, place the fibers on the tyers side of the hook and elevate at the approximate angle shown. Once again thread torque will draw the fibers up and on top of the hook. If we had placed the bundle on top of the hook, the torque would have "pushed" the far fibers over the top of the hook and on to the back side. My thumbnail marks the point where the tail "leaves" the body of the hook/fly. This is the point above the barb. This is true for most fibers that are to be attached to the hook. The Blind Pinch method will work at times but for material that has lots of fibers like the hackle tail, this method works better. |
