The wing material has been pinched now with the left hand ,freeing the right hand for the cut.The cut should be at the point directly above the start of the eye. Note that the hair is the correct length once it is cut.

Do not let go of the hair in you left hand !!! If you do, you will regret it . Once the bundle is bound down in place then and only then, release the hair. The same sliding motion we used with the tail fibers comes into play here. Slide the bundle down the shank toward the hook bend. Place the new cut edge over where the thread has been left. Note the my thumb nail is the relative marker on the hair where we will bind the material.
